Star Trek Online: Tour The Universe

While this will quickly become obsolete, I wanted to share the strategy and route I’m using to fully complete the Federation version of the Tour the Galaxy daily mission.

What is Tour the Galaxy?

Tour the Galaxy is a daily mission where you are challenged to visit all sectors of all sector blocks, except for Omega Leonis and the Delta Quadrant, within a time limit of 15 minutes.

Rewards

Each sector block fully visited gives a reward of 25,000EC and some Commendation XP in the Trade and Exploration categories. Bonus amounts are awarded when you’ve travelled across 3, 6, 9, 12, and all 14 sector blocks.

The first time a character completes 12 sector blocks, an additional award of the trait “Well Travelled” is made. This trait does not take up any trait slots, and passively reduces Transwarp cooldown by 20%.

Recommended Equipment

There is really only one piece of equipment that I would say is vital to visiting all sectors in the 15 minute, and that is an impulse engine that lets you break the Warp 10 speed limit. The primary candidate is the Assimilated Impulse Engine Mk XII, a Tier III reward from the Task Force Omega reputation, but the M.A.C.O. set engine, and the Advanced and Elite Fleet engines will also do.

If you have it, the Solanae Overcharged Warp Core will help you shave some time off with it’s Subspace Fold ability, but it is not essential.

The Route

Key to being able to complete all 14 sectors is a route that doubles back on itself as little as possible. Shown on the map below is a route that achieves this without having to use Transwarp. The star indicates the starting point; travel there first before hailing the contact through the mission journal and accepting the challenge.

Slipstream — Use Quantum Slipstream on this segment

Some tips for the route:

  • Always cut corners as close as possible. This will help when shimmying around the sector block borders in Romulan and Cardassian space, as well as doing the squared sector blocks of Iota Pavonis and Zeta Andromeda.
  • When turning, reduce to half speed or less. Turn rate in sector space gets lower the faster you go.
  • Turn rate is almost non-existent when using Slipstream drive. Make sure you’re pointing in the direction you need to go before activating it.
  • Slipstream is also best used on long stretches. The map has suggested legs where to use it; its cooldown should be complete by the time you reach the next suggested segment.
